Alicante Province is very varied, It is mountainous int the north amd west and mainly flat inthe south.
The coast runs from Cabo de la Nao in the north and almost reaches the Mar Menor in La Manga to the south.
Along the coast are saline marshlands, some of which are salt evaporation ponds i.e. Torrevieja. There are also coastal dunes at Guadamar which now planted with pine to prevent erosion.
There is a considerable variety in climate, ranging from semiarid in the south to Mediterranean in the north with a number of micro climates in between, such as at Marina Alta.
Alicante is mainly known for its tourism industry, especially around Benidorm but agriculture, including wine production, and fishing remain of vital importance.
Historically the textile industry and footwear have been important but are diminishing due to overseas competition. Marble quarrying has become a significant indusry in recent years.
